Outreach

This section highlights my involvement while at Clemson. I found different ways to get involved and give back to the community, and I have found each of these experiences incredibly rewarding. Through my time in these activities, I not only met lots of people from different backgrounds than my own, but I also grew as a person and learned a lot through each of these individual experiences. In addition, I developed my leadership and organizational skills by serving as an Executive Member for multiple clubs on campus such as Club Swim, the Club Sports Association, and the Spanish Professional Society.

I have been an active member of the Clemson Club Swim Team throughout my entire time at Clemson. I have swum competitively since I was 10 years old, and it was nice to be able to continue exercising and sharing the competitive spirit of swimming with my teammates in college. My teammates voted me to be the Treasurer on the executive board meaning I coached practices, presented a funding request to the Student Funding Board, and managed the team’s overall finances. I received all of the money I requested, and the Student Funding Board informed me it was one of the most detailed presentations they had ever seen. Because I enjoyed this position so much, I applied to the Club Sports Association and received the position of Treasurer/ Communications Chair. I love being able to give back to Club Sports because it has done so much for me.

Throughout my time on the Clemson Club Swim Team, I have traveled to away meets at schools such as University of Tennessee, University of Maryland, Georgia Tech, and many more. I have also helped plan the home swim meets once a semester here in Clemson. Although swimming is an individual sport, this team has been a large part of my college experience and is the reason why I tell all incoming Freshmen to join a club sport.

Clemson LIFE Swim Team

As head coach of the Clemson LIFE Swim Team, I lead practices every Wednesday and plan meets for the swimmers to compete. The Clemson LIFE swim team is called Tigersharks and is a swim team for students at Clemson with intellectual disabilities. Seeing how excited the swimmers get upon showing up to practice each week and working up to having them all jump in the deep end has made this one of my most rewarding experiences at Clemson.

I have planned multiple Tigersharks swim meets that occur in the middle of the Clemson Club Swim Home Meet. This gives the Clemson LIFE students an opportunity to compete in a real competitive environment with fans to cheer them on. I heard from multiple people that they had never heard the natatorium that loud in their entire lives. I organize them into heats based on their skill levels and make sure to get them excited and ready prior to competing.

I joined Kappa Delta my Freshman year of college, and I have been actively involved ever since then. I was Hall Hospitality Chair my Sophomore year of college which meant that I was in charge of keeping the girls living on the Kappa Delta Hall organized. I also planned fun social events for them. I interviewed people running to be on our executive board, and I was a key member in the logistics committee during Recruitment my Junior year. I have also served as Assistant Panhellenic Delegate where I encouraged girls in our chapter to get involved with other Greek organizations on campus. I have valued my time in this chapter during college, and I am very thankful for the experiences and lifelong friends it has given me.
